Woman struck by turning semi at Harlem I-290 ramp
Hit-and-run driver stopped by Forest Park police near Mannheim Road

By Jean Lotus
A female pedestrian was struck at the Harlem entrance ramp to the westbound I-290 expressway by a hit and run semi-driver around 10:09 p.m. Friday, July 31, according to Forest Park police.
Witnesses told police the white auto-transport truck with a "really long trailer" jumped the curb turning left and struck the woman, police at the scene told emergency dispatchers. The truck continued onto the highway. Forest Park officers stopped the trailer just eat of Mannheim Road and a witness identified the vehicle. The driver, a 36-year-old man from Colorado, was cooperative with officers. Dispatchers said he had a commercial drivers license but was not certified to drive interstate.
The driver was taken into custody and the incident was still under investigation Saturday morning. An assistant state's attorney was meeting with Forest Park police to determine charges, said Sgt. Peter Morrissette.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where her condition was not life-threatening, said Morrissette.
More information will be posted as it becomes available.
