Kamala Harris wants Joe Biden to admit he was wrong about the federal government's imposition of busing in the 1970s. Was he wrong? The way I remember the controversy, busing was a toxic issue that divided communities and discredited desegregation in the minds of many people otherwise supportive of civil rights and integration. And if busing was such a good idea, why aren't communities doing it now? I am happy that Senator Harris benefited from busing, but does that make busing the solution? Is Senator Harris recommending that busing be implemented now? Or is she just taking a cheap shot at an old man who had to navigate the perilous currents of a difficult issue that has long since been abandoned?
