Saddened by hateful rhetoric

Thank you for publishing John Hubbuch's column last week, "The beginning of the end of political polarity."

For me, John spoke clearly and simply. I have found it sad to continue the hatred I have witnessed from both sides, as if one side is so correct and the other so wrong. I have been saddened by the hateful rhetoric of those who profess to be open and tolerant when they are not.

Maybe if more of us point this out regularly when we hear bitter words, we can help crack that kind of wall and try to build up a bridge instead. It often seems hopeless, but necessary to keep trying.
