I hope that Oak Parkers have been able to see the whole memorial to Bobbie Raymond on the village website. There are two more aspects to the whole celebration that are worth considering:
The curator at the Oak Park Art League, Gabriel Soto, and I are co-curating an exhibition of Bobbie's art, as it evolved over her 40-year relationship with the League. The exhibition will be opening on Sept. 13, and we are asking that anyone who has paintings or larger drawings from the 1970s or early '80s, contact either of us if they would be willing to have those works considered for inclusion in the exhibit.
As was announced at the memorial and in the "program," several of us have formed a committee with the intention of commissioning a sculpture of Bobbie, to be placed in a public setting.
Several area sculptors have expressed their interest in the commission, but we are waiting to see how much we can raise before committing to either a specific artist or the scale and size of the work.
We have already raised several thousand dollars but need a lot more. The Oak Park Area Arts Council is our fiduciary agent, as a 501c3 entity, and they have set up a separate line item account at what is more-or-less still Community Bank. Thus, all contributions are tax-deductible.
So that's where we are at this point with the Bobbie Raymond Memorial Sculpture Fund. Checks made out to that fund can be mailed to the Oak Park Area Arts Council, 123 Madison St., Suite 221, Oak Park, IL 60302. Also you can visit the website, bobbieraymondmemorialsculpture.com.
