The 9U Oak Park Apartments (OPA) girls defeated Maya Del Sol 14-13 in a thrilling, extra-innings game on June 26th at Maple Park to win the Oak Park Youth Baseball & Softball 9U championship.
Tied at 11 after 6 innings, Maya Del Sol tacked on 2 runs in the top of the 7th, but the OPA sluggers roared back with a rally of their own. Shealy Callahan set the stage with a lead-off single, followed by hits from Cassie Dumelle, Angie Berggren and Charlotte Allington to bring the teams even with one out. With runners on first and third, Charlotte Greenstone mustered the walk-off single to seal the title. Earlier in the game, hits throughout the batting order from Emily McCann, Rose McNamara, Maja Metcalf, Marnie Wright, Amaya Gray, Lillian Johnson and Ciarra Richardson were crucial in getting OPA on the board and keeping up with Maya Del Sol.
After starting off the season with two losses, the OPA girls settled in and changed the script for the remainder of the games with a winning streak unmatched in the league. Throughout the season, the OPA pitching was solid, the defense tremendous and hitting consistent, with contributions from everyone. Congrats OPA for bringing home the 2013 OPYBS Village 9U Softball championship trophy!

Having seen most of their games this year, I have to say these girls played very exciting softball. The improvement from the start of the season to the finale was remarkable, thanks to their coaches and parents.
