A Chicago man was shot in the arm and the leg Tuesday night near the BP gas station at 100 Chicago Ave. It is as yet unclear whether the man was shot on the Oak Park side or the Austin side of Austin Boulevard. Oak Park police arrived in the area at about 11:50 p.m., Tuesday, June 2 after receiving reports of shots fired.

According to Oak Park spokesman David Powers, neighbors reported seeing two suspicious vehicles in the area. Police officers stopped a vehicle matching a general description provided by neighbors at Erie Street and Austin Boulevard.

"Investigators determined that the [vehicle's] occupants had taken a man to West Suburban Hospital after he apparently had been shot on Chicago Avenue," said Powers. "The individual, a 25-year-old Chicago man, was shot in the arm and leg."

The injured man told police he was walking alone on Chicago Avenue when he heard gunshots and discovered he had been hit. The man said a random car transported him to the hospital.

He appears to be in stable condition and is expected to be transferred to Stroger Hospital for further treatment.

The investigation is ongoing.

That's the same place that thieves actually blew up in a robbery attempt a few years ago.

The BP gas station has had many troubles over the past 25 years. Robberies and shootings. I'm glad that we got a good report here on Good article, Stacy Sheridan. I live in sight of the BP station from my house's back deck.

Quick turn around time Stacy Sheridan. You are right on top of the crime scene. The shooting victim was very fortunate to be walking down the street after be shot to have a passerby willing to stop and transport the victim to the hospital. If those shell casings are every found that may help in identifying where the shooting actually took place. Even a being shot in the leg is life threatening so hopefully all with be fine and the victim will make a full recovery
