A group of Oak Park fathers who share a passion for cars have been prevented from having their Sunday morning coffee meetups in downtown Oak Park due to COVID-19 concerns from the village health department.
The group of fathers have their own Facebook group called Cars & Coffee Oak Park. For the last four years, members of the unofficial community organization have been meeting up in the parking lot at 1026 North Blvd. to drink coffee and talk about cars on Sunday mornings during summer and early fall.
After receiving complaints that the group was violating rules against congregating, Oak Park Public Health Director Mike Charley issued a public health order June 17 prohibiting them from meeting until Oak Park enters Phase four of Governor J.B. Pritzker's Restore Illinois plan, which is set to occur Friday, June 26.
The group is not affiliated with any businesses surrounding the parking lot, which has free parking on Sundays. Cars & Coffee declined to make a statement to Wednesday Journal. Charley has been sent a request for comment.
