We remember this week, with respect and affection, Bob Walsh. Our obit at OakPark.com headlined Walsh as the first openly gay member of the District 97 school board back in 2001. While true, it is just one aspect of a well-lived life cut short with his sudden death at age 57.

An attorney, a political staffer in D.C., chair of Oak Park’s Community Relations Commission, Walsh lives in our mind for his brave interview a year back with the Journal. He detailed his coming out, the trauma of a sexual assault as a young man in Washington, his ensuing struggles and, always, his devotion to his two kids.
