Marc Stopeck

We may be the only newspaper in the country, the world, that has a single person selling ads and penning its editorial cartoons. But that is how it has happily worked out for Marc Stopeck and Wednesday Journal.

And last week, in one 24-hour period, the Illinois Press Association recognized Marc as being the absolute best at both endeavors.

On Thursday, in the annual advertising and marketing awards handed out in Springfield, Marc was recognized as Salesperson of the Year among weeklies in Illinois. Marc, who was nominated by Associate Publisher Dawn Ferencak, was rightly cited for his invention of our Season of Giving marketing campaign for local nonprofits.

Then, just a day later in the editorial awards, he took first, second and third place honors in the Editorial Cartoon category for Shrubtown.

Accept our bias, but to us Marc is terrific at everything he does and these honors could not be more deserved.
