Oak Park Gymnastics Center Boys Teams excels at state championships
Several highly skilled gymnasts advance to regionals
The Oak Park Gymnastics Center Boys Team competed in the 2014 Illinois Men's State Championships at Oswego East High School in Oswego, Ill. (March 28-30). Several highly skilled gymasts performed well, advancing to the regionals.
The following gymnasts received awards:
Level 9 (all ages)
Austin Donatone
12.2 on vault, 3rd place
12.2 on parallel bars; 3rd place
64.5 for all-around; 6th place and advances to Regionals
Level 8 (age 13+)
Owen Baldwin
11.9 on parallel bars; 3rd place
65.4 for all-around; 6th place
Zachary Garcia
12.1 on floor exercise; 5th place
10.8 on pommel horse; 6th place
10.5 on high bar; 1st place
64.9 for all-around; 8th place
Linus Shaw
12.4 on floor exercise; 4th place
11.1 on pommel horse; 2nd place
11.5 on rings; 1st place
11 on parallel bars; 6th place
66.70 for all-around; 5th place
Nicholas Shaw
10.9 on pommel horse; 4th place
11.6 on vault; 5th place
11.3 on parallel bars; 6th place
65 for all-around; 7th place
All four level 8 gymnasts (over age 13) advance to Regionals.
The Level 8s won 2nd place in the team awards.
Level 8 (age 12)
Lee Anderson advances to Regionals with a score of 62.3.
Level 7 (age 12 )
Connor Callahan
8.0 on floor exercise; 9th place
9.4 on pommel horse; 4th pale
8.0 on rings; 7th place
11.2 on vault; 10th place
9.5 on parallel bars; 2nd place
9.1 on high bar; 4th place
55.2 for all-around; 4th place and moves on to Regionals
Patrick Sullivan
8.2 on floor exercise; 8th place
8.8 on pommel horse; 6th pale
7.6 on rings; 9th place
12.2 on vault; 2nd place
8.4 on parallel bars; 7th place
9.2 on high bar; 3rd place
54.4 for all-around; 7th place and moves on to Regionals
Level 6 (age 10)
Thanos Pantazopoulos
10.5 on floor exercise; tied for 6th place
9.8 on rings; tied for 8th place
9.8 on vault; tied for 8th place
11.1 on parallel bars; 1st place
11.0 on high bar; tied for 3rd place
62.1 for all-around; 4th place
Level 6 (age 9)
Leo Gonazalez
10.0 on rings; 5th place
Mattia Zefran
10.4 on rings; 2nd place
9.8 on vault; 9th place
Both advance on to Regionals.
Level 5 (age 7)
Josh Oxer:
10.9 on rings; tied for 6th
9.9 on vault; tied for 6th
10.8 on parallel bars; tied for 6th
61.2 for all-around; 8th place, and advances on to Regionals.
Jack Gooch:
10.2 on high bar; tied for 9th
He qualified for Regionals with an All-Around of 58.1
Level 5 (age 8)
Joshua Meister also qualified to advance to Regionals with an All-Around score of 55.4.
Level 4 (age 7)
Kaden Garland
9.7 on vault; 9th place
Ben Shafiro
10.1 on parallel bars; 10th place
Level 5 (age 9)
Bodhi Coffee
10.3 on pommel horse; tied for 9th place
56.2 for all-around; 9th place and advances to Regionals
Hayden Swader
9.4 on high bar; tied for 10th place
55.8 for all-around; 10th place and advances to Regionals.
Maks Piper
9.8 on floor exercise; tied for 4th place
54.7 for all-around and advances to Regionals
Level 4 gymnasts finish their season at State (there is no Regionals).
Other gymnasts who competed were Max Lofgren, Lucas Puntillo, Henry Thompson and Aaron Willard.
The 2014 USA Gymnastics Region 5 Men's Championships will be held April 11-13 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
