Thank you to River Forest for electing me to the District 90 school board. I am honored and humbled.

This was a group effort, with many people spreading the word about me through emails and phone calls, donating money, knocking on doors, hosting events, or posting a yard sign. Thank you to all my supporters!

I want to extend a congratulations to my fellow candidates. Win or lose, we all worked hard and should be proud of ourselves for our effort and willingness to serve our community.

Running for public office was challenging, but it was also an amazing experience that deepened my relationship with our community. I met new people and strengthened existing friendships. River Forest is a special place and I am excited about the opportunity to contribute in a new way.

In addition to thanking those who voted for me, I want to thank those who did not vote for me because I appreciate your engagement, opinions, thoughts and concerns. I will take them into consideration as a board member and I look forward to continuing the dialogue over the next two years as we discuss what is going well in our schools and where we can be better.

Much thanks to River Forest for the vote of confidence and to friends and family near and far who supported me. D90 schools are great but together we can make them even better.

Katie Avalos

D90 school board member-elect
