Earth's hopes are riding on our youth

There is a world-wide movement of young people, teenagers and those in their 20s, to counteract climate change — really climate catastrophes — and to challenge its deniers. It is these young peoples' future they seek to control as best they can, a future previous generations have rendered precarious.

The students at our high school and at Triton are, I hope, way out ahead of me in already participating in this movement. As a member of one those generations having caused these problems, I applaud any effort by these students to join this movement if they haven't already. These catastrophes driving their future ought to bring African-American, white, and Latino students together.

Given their outreach to other students in this movement, one must hope that their participation in it will contribute, to whatever degree, a noticeable impact of climate change.
