Local police officers, fire fighters and paramedics were honored on Friday, Jan. 20 at the Oak Park Arms Retirement Community. Over 40 men and women in uniform attended and were honored with lunch and testimonies of graditude and salvation.

Residents shared their deep gratitude to the men and women in uniform. During the luncheon, Oak Park Arms staff read the testimonials written by residents.

Residents Jo Linden and Nettie Croom shared testimonials of life saving events and were able to give their heroes the thank-you they deserved. Betty Bouvier, a native Oak Parker, recounted a story from 80 years ago at the Garfield Station. She and her brother were invited into the station by fire fighters one afternoon and Betty was sour because she was not allowed to go down the pole, like her brother. She has forgiven them now and is grateful for their life saving efforts. Other residents are the proud parents and grandparents of police officers, fire fighters and paramedics.

The civil servants in attendance were treated to lunch and given a hand painted coffee mug made by the Senior Citizens Center of Oak Park and River Forest. The Oak Park Arms is privileged to be in such a well-served community.
