When we found out our neighbor, John Phelan, was running for the Oak Park and River Forest High School District 200 Board of Education, we smiled. Both of our children have enjoyed the fruits of a strong educational experience at OPRF, but we knew that the school could only get better if more people like John chose to get involved in our school board.

As active members of our community, we have supported John's campaign from the start. He is both a thoughtful and honest person who you can trust to be looking at all sides of the issues. The board will certainly benefit from John's career as a labor and employment attorney, and the community will benefit from his dedication to the high school. He attended OPRF and has six children who will all eventually make their way through the school system. We cannot imagine anyone with more motivation to make our high school a better place.

John has thoughtfully prepared for his candidacy. He believes the school's top challenge is to improve academic achievement for all students with an emphasis on closing gaps. John recognizes that making the school better will require efforts from everyone involved, including students, teachers, parents and administrators.

If you are a voter who cares about the future of Oak Park and River Forest, we encourage you to vote for John Phelan on April 5.
