John Phelan, a former wrestling student of mine and now a candidate for the Oak Park and River Forest high school board, gets things done. While in high school, he once pinned his heavyweight opponent in eight seconds! I taught for many years at OPRF (1979-1994). While I was a wrestling coach, it was my privilege to work with John for four years. He was and is a star.

It would be fantastic to have John Phelan on the OPRF board of education. He is a product of the community and has a rock-solid family and educational background from the area. John is very bright. After OPRF, John went on to Cornell University and later to law school at DePaul University.

John knows OPRF high school and the communities it serves. John knows the school more than most because he and his siblings participated in extracurricular activities (and now his children attend OPRF). John played football and was on the wrestling team for four years. A young adult learns a great deal from involvement in these extracurricular activities. A person learns how to work with others, how to approach problems and how to set goals. This is done both as an individual and as a member of a team. John has done this. John understands this. John can get things done.

John and his family are an asset to the community. John would be a rock-solid member of the high school board of education, and I encourage you to vote for him.
