It's been a privilege and an honor to serve as clerk and River Forest village trustee the past 14 years. As I leave office, I would like to offer my wholehearted endorsement to three trustees and a District 90 school board candidate who exemplify the excellence we have come to expect for those who serve our community: Steve Lefko for the two-year term on D90; Mike Gibbs, Bob O'Connell and Katie Brennan for village trustees.

Steve Lefko knows that the schools are our investment in the future of River Forest and that the high-quality education is our hallmark. We need to continue this if we want to attract new families. Steve has been growing Lincoln PTO programs for years and began attending BOE meetings in 2017 when he noticed student safety issues.

His commitment to safety and his ability to work with people across functions is exemplified by his success in adding crossing guards at perimeter intersections and ultimately the safe routes study approved by the village board. These qualities, coupled with his informed, data-driven approach as a scientist, equip him with the qualifications necessary to affect the debate and discussion at board level.

The District has been considering changes that require a well-engaged and informed community. Steve believes in a full-throated discussion where all voices are heard and the best answers found will ensure excellence for all.

As his neighbor and friend, Steve Lefko is one of the finest people I have met here in River Forest. You will not find a better or more qualified candidate who supports your interests -- both academically and fiscally -- for our local school board.

Mike Gibbs has served the village as trustee for eight years. He offers a lifetime of local experience, institutional memory and an intentional approach to his deliberation, along with a sense of humor. He is a valued member of the board.

Bob O'Connell is the chairman of our Economic Development Commission, and his expertise, coupled with his knowledge of development and professionalism, will be an asset to the efficiency and productivity of the board.

He is thoughtful and experienced, coming in with a familiarity of the administration and an understanding of how the village functions. His deft ability to collaborate, along with his inherent demeanor and humility, make him a perfect board member.

Katie Brennan serves as chairman of the Sustainability Commission and has a list of accomplishments that would fill pages. She is adept at working with the village and our partners to find the best solutions in an efficient and cost-effective manner. As a practicing attorney, her knowledge and expertise will add depth to the board. She has proven herself capable time and again of collaboration and innovation. She has boundless energy and an infectious spirit.

The common denominators for these recommendations are their qualified, tested and proven experience; four independent candidates whose only agenda is the well-being of River Forest and its residents. Please join me in voting for these outstanding citizens on April 2.
