Why so few north side Little Libraries?

Opinion: Letters To The Editor

My friend Bob and I continue to take our weekly walks in Oak Park. A few months ago, I submitted a list of all the Little Free Libraries we found south of the Lake Street el. This time we covered all the streets north of the Lake Street el, noting all the Little Free Libraries we found there.

Alas, there were only 15 in comparison to the 37 south of the tracks. Quite a difference. I won't hazard a guess what causes it, but the difference is striking. At any rate, the weather is warming up again, so it's time to get out for a walk or a bike ride and perhaps visit a Little Free Library while you're at it. Maybe you'll find a treasure along the way, and maybe you can drop off a few books you're done with and pay it forward.

Here's the north side list: Austin Gardens, 633 Belleforte, 827 Columbia, 907 Elmwood, 536 N. Grove, 1105 Greenfield, 1201 N. Kenilworth, 19 LeMoyne Parkway, Lindbergh Park tennis courts, 6445 W. North Ave. (WonderWorks back entrance), 702 N. Oak Park Ave., 901 N. Oak Park Ave., 1141 N. Oak Park Ave., 216 N. Ridgeland, 630 N. Ridgeland.

Yep. Plenty on the north side. I walk dogs every day and there's hardly a block that doesn't have one.

I think you missed a bunch! There's a great one on Humphrey north of Lake, another on Taylor between Erie and Ontario, two on Harvey on either side of Chicago Avenue , Cheney Mansion on Euclid, Oak Park Art League on Chicago, and these are just off the top of my head. There are many more!
