A global pandemic does not stop Oak Park-rooted celebs from making news which must, of course, be reported.
So here goes.
Candi Carter leaps from her perch as executive producer of The View to becoming the showrunner for the Tamron Hall syndicated daytime talk show. Carter lived in Oak Park with her family for many of the years she worked as a producer for Oprah Winfrey’s talk show. She left Oak Park five years ago for an interim role helming a topsy turvy View. That quickly become a permanent post.
The Tamron Hall show debuted last September with a mix of news, culture and celebrity. It has recently been renewed for a second season.
Said Carter of Hall, “I’m thrilled to work with her and her production team, to create even more exciting and memorable television moments.”
Carter was the most recent, and for now the last, local celeb to take part in the Wednesday Journal Conversations series at Dominican University. She was on our stage in February.
Maggie Griffin, the 99-year-old mom of Kathy Griffin, the D-List comic, died on St. Patrick’s Day in California. Mrs. Griffin raised her five children in Oak Park. She was a retired hospital administrator but gained greater fame as a semi-regular on Griffin’s cable TV show and at live performances.
Said Kathy Griffin on Twitter, “I am gutted. My best friend. I am shaking. I won’t ever be prepared.”
Mrs. Griffin died just three months shy of her 100th birthday.
