While people can no longer dine inside restaurants due to COVID-19 concerns under the state-wide restaurant and bar shutdown, Oak Park restaurants can still operate food delivery services – one of the many exemptions detailed in the village's shelter in place order issued March 18.
"Restaurants and other facilities that prepare and serve food, but only for delivery or carry out," the order dictates under the "Essential Businesses" section.
Similarly, schools that provide food to students can also continue doing so under the order, providing people are not served the food directly.
According to the order, "Schools and other entities that typically provide free food services to students or members of the public may continue to do so under this Order on the condition that the food is provided to students or members of the public on a pick-up and takeaway basis only."
Grocery stores and food pantries are also listed exemptions in the order, so people can continue acquiring food from those outlets. Food cultivation, such as farming and fishing, is also exempt.
