On April 5, Oak Parkers will go to the polls to select park district commissioners. I am pleased to support Jessica Bullock, Victor Guarino and Paul Aeschleman in their campaign for park district commissioner.
Over the past several years, the Park District of Oak Park has developed an extensive public participation process for planning the parks. This inclusive and transparent approach has resulted in dramatic improvements throughout the park system. The many new playgrounds, restored fields, renovated facilities and enhanced natural areas are of great benefit to the entire community.
In 2006, I participated in my first community meeting for the master plan of a local park. I learned how vital citizen input is to creating healthy, useful and enduring park designs. The project’s success inspired me join the Park District Citizen Committee. As a member, and then chair of this committee, I had the opportunity to work closely with the board and staff of the park district. I was consistently impressed with the park district’s commitment to the public process.
During my years volunteering for the park district, I worked with Jessica, Paul and Victor on various projects. I believe that they have diverse and valuable experience that will benefit the Park District of Oak Park. They are not single-issue candidates. Instead, they are committed to building public participation and tackling key issues that will face the park district over the next four years. I urge all Oak Parkers to vote for Jessica Bullock, Victor Guarino and Paul Aeschleman for park district commissioner on April 5!
