When people hire McAdam Landscaping for a landscape installation between now and May 1st, they will be bolstering an array of global philanthropic causes.
The Forest Park-based family-owned business is donating up to a 5-percent portion of those installations to projects devoted to eradicating polio, supporting peace, fighting illiteracy and malnutrition and other humanitarian endeavors.
The initiative is an outgrowth of McAdam President Scott McAdam’s passion for the organization and its nearly century-long impact, both locally and across the world. A member of the Oak Park and River Forest Rotary Club since 1995, McAdam served a term as the club’s president and is the Rotary’s District Governor nominee for District 6450, which encompasses 65 clubs in Chicago and throughout the suburbs.
To qualify for a full 5-percent donation, an individual must be a Rotarian. To qualify for a donation of 3 percent, an individual must indicate he or she is a Friend of Rotary-simply mentioning the Rotary Club when engaging McAdam’s services will suffice for this contribution level.
The program does not apply to work that has previously been under contract.
“Since we began in 1979, we have had great clients who are community-minded and make a positive difference in so many different ways. We know, first hand, that they support a lot of great charities because they have enlisted our company into those worthy causes,” McAdam said. “Now we’re doing the same sort of thing. Our motive is to not only support the Rotary Foundation in the short term, but to raise awareness about the organization among our clients so that they become donors well into the future.”
The Rotary Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation that helps Rotary International in its aim for world understanding and peace via international humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs. Formed in 1917, the Foundation, with more than $1 billion in resources, is one of the largest and most respected international fellowship programs globally.
Among other causes, Rotary has been instrumental in eradicating polio in over 200 countries. In addition, the watchdog organization Charity Navigator has given the Rotary Foundation its highest rating, four stars, for its financial health as well as its accountability and transparency.
McAdam’s one-year term as District Governor will begin in July 1, 2017. He is currently undergoing training for the position, a commitment that is essentially a full-time volunteer post. In that role, McAdam will meet with and guide all of the clubs in the district. Among his priorities: promotion of the Rotary Foundation.
“I felt it was time to really give back to a larger cause,” McAdam explained. “I have a great staff that I have spent a lot of time with to build the company, and that enables me to commit more of my time and energy to Rotary.”
Located at 2001 Des Plaines Ave. in Forest Park, McAdam Landscaping began 37 years ago in the River Forest home where Scott and his brother, Rob, grew up. Since then, the company has developed into one of the region’s most respected names in landscaping for residential, business and municipal clients.
With the creation of the Nursery & Garden Center in 2003, McAdam moved beyond maintenance and design/installation and into other specialties such as landscape lighting and water features. Over the years, the company has been an active supporter of a variety of community initiatives, particularly non-profit organizations.
