Man attacks with hot coffee, box cutter
Oak Park police are looking for a man who attacked two people, one from Oak Park and the other from Chicago, with a hot cup of coffee and a box cutter at about 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 14 in the 200 block of Madison Street.
Police report that the man started a verbal altercation with two employees of the business and was escorted outside. He then threw a hot cup of coffee on one of the employees, a Chicago resident, and displayed a box cutter. A brief struggle ensued, causing the other victim, an Oak Park resident, to come outside and assist. The Oak Park victim was struck in the right hand with the box cutter.
The attacker was last seen on Madison in a beige Cadillac. He is described as a bald black male, about 40 years old, about 6-foot tall and 150 pounds.
A business was burglarized in the 100 block of S. Marion sometime between 5 p.m. on Feb. 11 and 9:35 a.m. on Feb. 12. The offender used a pry tool to defeat the rear door and gain entry to the business. Once inside, they then stole a white Dell computer and a black and gray iPod Touch. They then entered the basement storage area of the business using a key and stole two white men's Sayno Eneloop electric bikes and four turquoise men's Bianchi Milano bikes. The loss was an estimated $5,670.
Marcus McGee, 57, of the 800 block of S. 19th Ave. in Maywood, was arrested on Feb. 12 for a theft that occurred on Feb. 1, in the 6300 block of North Ave. No additional information was given.
Attempted motor vehicle theft
Someone attempted to steal a vehicle in the 1000 block of S. Kenilworth on Feb. 12, between 9:50 and 11 p.m. The offender entered the unlocked vehicle while it was parked on the 1000 block of S. Kenilworth. Once inside, the offender then used an unknown tool to remove the ignition mechanism from the steering column. The cost of the damage was unknown at the time of the report.
Theft from a motor vehicle
A vehicle was burglarized in the 600 block of N. Cuyler sometime between 11 p.m. on Feb. 5 and 6:30 a.m. on Feb. 6. The offender, by unknown means, stole a mounted spare wheel/tire from the victim's vehicle while it was parked in the driveway. The loss was an estimated $50.
Another vehicle's spare tire was stolen from a vehicle in the 700 block of Lemoyne sometime between 4 and 9:32 p.m. on Feb. 5. The spare tire was affixed to the rear of the victim's vehicle. The loss was an estimated $100.
Criminal damage to auto
The rear window of a Chicago resident's vehicle was broken in the 1000 block of S. Austin sometime between 8 p.m. on Feb. 11 and 12:58 a.m. on Feb. 12. The damage was an estimated $300.
These items, obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments, came from reports, Feb. 1-14, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public's help in making an arrest.
