Why Oak Park needs a safe gun storage ordinance

Over 90 percent of Oak Park voters approved a non-binding referendum urging passage of an ordinance requiring safe storage of guns and ammunition in Oak Park. One reason for this is guns that aren't safely stored tend to get stolen during burglaries. Some may think this never happens in Oak Park, but that is not true. Just look at the story of a shotgun, three handguns, and ammunition stolen during a recent burglary: https://patch.com/illinois/oakpark/burglar-steals-4-guns-ammo-big-screen-tv-oak-park-cops.

This is just one more example of why Oak Park voters were right to overwhelmingly approve the safe gun storage referendum.

More "Claptrap" from the Gun Responsibilities Advocates How can this possibly work? Kids encouraged to rat out their parents for extra credit in school. Who will be the monitors and how will they gain access to private property? You are getting awfully close to "search and seizure " problems. Who pays for this monitoring? It seems to me that had you presented answers to these basic questions, the Oak Park residents would been far less enthusiastic about your non-binding referendum. Every week we are treated to pontification from the Gun Responsibilities Advocates, yet they feel no responsibility to discover the facts or present the whole story. Just do something so you never have to do anything.
