A criminal damage to property report was filed by Oak Park police after Christmas decorations on the front porch of a home in the 300 block of S. Ridgeland were reported damaged sometime between Dec. 16 and 27. The total loss was $20.
Three UPS packages were stolen from the front porch of a residence in the 200 block of Forest, between 6:42 p.m. on Dec. 23 and early the next morning. The packages contained a Walgreen's gift card, glow light phone chargers, an umbrella tow pens, jewelry and a cell phone case valued at a combined $250.
Motor vehicle theft
A black 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was stolen from the 800 block of N. Austin between 9 a.m. and 8:55 p.m. on Dec. 25. The loss was an estimated $4,000.
Aggravated assault and disorderly conduct arrests
A Chicago man was arrested Dec. 27 for aggravated assault for threatening someone with a knife in the 200 block of Madison. The police identified the victim as a Plainfield resident. At the same time, 3:46 a.m., police arrested a 16-year-old Chicago resident for disorderly conduct. Also on the 200 block of Madison, the teenager threw a plastic bottle at the victim. Both the adult and the minor were positively identified by their victims. The teenager was released to a family member.
A garbage can in the alley behind an Oak Park business in the 100 block of S. Euclid was found set on fire at 8:13 a.m. on Dec. 23. The estimated damage to the can was $150. Trash inside another can was set on fire in the 200 block of S. Euclid, but the can was not damaged.
Burglars broke into an apartment in the 1100 block of S. Kenilworth between 7 a.m. and 8:32 p.m. on Dec. 22. The offenders entered through an unlocked rear window and stole a Sony PlayStation 3 and controller, three PlayStation games and a black Adidas tote bag from the living room. The loss was estimated at $265.
A Chicago man was arrested for burglary after being positively identified as the person who stole items from the victim's vehicle in the 600 block of Madison at 6 p.m. on Dec. 23.
Burglary to motor vehicle
A vehicle was burglarized in the 900 block of Ontario sometime between 10 p.m. on Dec. 23 and 5 a.m. the next morning. The offender gained entry to the vehicle by damaging the passenger side window. They then stole a small Ryobi snow blower and various wrapped gifts, toys and clothes. The loss was estimated at $1,000.
These items, obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments, came from reports, Dec.21-27, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public's help in making an arrest.
