What a community!
Opinion: Letters To The Editor
We are an amazing community! The outpouring of support from donors, congregational groups, organizations, and small businesses throughout the COVID crisis has, frankly, stunned us. The unwavering support since March allowed Housing Forward to respond swiftly to keep those experiencing homelessness safe. We are humbled and deeply appreciative of all those who have offered assistance, encouragement, and stepped up to help neighbors who are among the most vulnerable to the coronavirus.
To the individuals and organizations who have and continue to donate breakfasts and lunches, the restaurants and caterers who provided hot dinners, the individuals and groups who assembled more than 70 Hotel-to-Home kits, and the donors who made generous contributions, thank you! When the community comes together, amazing things happen. The impact of your support is felt each day by our clients.
Housing Forward has rapidly adapted its programming, unlike any time before in our history, in order to safeguard the health and well-being of the individuals and families in our care. With the outpouring of support, we took a bold step to establish a 24/7 Interim Housing Program, based at the Write Inn Hotel, to provide short-term accommodations combined with support services focused on transitioning clients to permanent housing.
This incredible response is truly a silver-lining of the COVID-19 pandemic. While the future of the COVID crisis is uncertain, we will continue to navigate this unchartered territory and are extremely grateful to all who have supported our efforts.
With deepest thanks,
Lynda Schueler
Executive director, Housing Forward
