This year the Oak Park Park Area Arts Council is celebrating the East Indian culture and Diwali, the festival of lights, with an art auction from Oak Park, Forest Park and River Forest artists. Guests can can bid for many prizes, including a round trip for two to London, England or an 8-course Indian dinner.

Funkadesi, a dynamic ensemble of musicians who integrate East Indian music (Hindi film, folk and classical) with Reggae, Funk and Afro-Caribbean grooves, will perform. The excitement that Funkadesi has created has captured the attention of a rapidly growing multicultural fan base both in the greater Chicago area and across the U.S. Before Funkadesi takes the stage, Nadia Ranney, an East Indian Kathak dancer as well as a 2006 OPRF graduate, will also perform at the event.

Guests will receive a complimentary “Mango Exotica Cocktail before they dig into authentic Indian food from Khyber Pass Restaurant, including vegetable and meat samosas, aaloo tikka, onion pakora, chicken tikka, beef seikh kabob, pappadas, cheese, mango and mint chutney, raita and tamarind sauces and baked goods and sweets.

Artful Object is the Oak Park Area Arts Council’s largest annual fundraiser. All of the proceeds are put right back into the arts community. This year the Council was able to provide $61,700 in grants to 30 organizations in Oak Park, Forest Park and River Forest. The organization also sponsored eight $1,000 scholarships to graduating OPRF seniors interesting in pursuing further education in the arts as well as 11 young artists who participated in their summer teen arts employment program, Off the Wall.

Wednesday Journal is a sponsor of the Artful Object Fine Art Benefit Show and Auction.
