With the exception of a few offensive struggles in the closing minutes of games against Loyola Academy and tourney host New Trier, the Fenwick High School girls basketball team dictated the action in the five games of the New Trier Thanksgiving Classic.

The Friars defeated Taft (58-43), Warren (48-33) and Bogan (67-38) to finish third at the tournament. Senior Maggie Van Ermen and freshman Audrey Hinrichs were selected for the all-tournament team.

Fenwick found its rhythm offensively towards the end of the tourney against Warren and Bogan.

Against Warren, the Friars heated up on offense en route to a 15-point win over the Blue Devils. Lauren Hall had scored a game-high 12 points and Lily Riordan chipped in 11 points including a trio of 3-pointers. Eight other Friars scored led by Hinrichs with six points.

Fenwick took control early against Bogan with a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Friars outscored the Bengals 29-13 in the second quarter to build a commanding 43-20 lead at halftime. Hinrichs scored a game-high 18 points. Hall (12 points) and Katie Schneider (10 points) also reached double figures, while Elise Heneghan, Sheila Hogan and Reardon finished with six points apiece. Senior guard Gianni Ortiz turned in a great floor game with six assists and four steals.

In their loss against New Trier, the Friars had more rebounds (32-28) and steals (20-11), but struggled shooting the ball at 31.8 percent on field goal attempts. The Trevians' Tinah Hong led the victors with 13 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals.

The Friars' junior varsity is undefeated at 4-0, with victories over Taft, New Trier, Loyola and Warren.

Fenwick (3-2) hosts DePaul Prep on Thursday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m.

The Friars then hit the road with games against host Peoria on Friday, Nov. 30 at 6 p.m. and against Marian Catholic on Sunday, Dec. 2 (2 p.m.) at Loyola Academy in the GCAC vs. ESCC event.
