Suspect in custody after windows smashed on Lake Street in River Forest
Police say they arrested a man who had a rock in his pocket and proceeds from a business
By Maria Maxham
River Forest police say they've arrested a man suspected of smashing several storefront windows along the 7700 block of Lake Street during the early morning hours of Nov. 18.
According to River Forest Police Chief James O'Shea, a witness called 911 around 2 a.m., stating he'd heard glass breaking and saw a person walking down Lake Street.
Police stopped a man, who reportedly had a large rock in his pocket, a cut on his hand and was carrying property from a local business.
When questioned, the suspect allegedly provided false information about his identity to police.
Broken windows were located at Valenti Tailors & Cleaners, 7623-B Lake St.; Byline Bank, 7751 Lake St; and River Forest Dry Cleaners & Tailoring, 7777 Lake St.
According to police, it appeared that entry had been gained only at Valenti Tailors & Cleaners.
As of Wednesday afternoon, police said the suspect remained in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
