Mary Lou Delano, 86, Second grandmother to many

Mary Lou Delano, 86, a longtime resident of Oak Park, died on Oct. 2, 2010 at Lutheran General Hospital. Born in St. Joseph, Mo., on June 3, 1924 to Edna and Charles Sterling, she worked at Borg Warner for 33 years, retiring in 1987. A strong, one-of-a-kind woman who made it her daily goal to provide joy to those around her, she was known as a second grandmother to many, loved being around children, and babysat for many families in Oak Park, where she lived for 61 years.

Mrs. Delano is survived by her four daughters, Carol (Norb) Koscienski, Patricia (Russell) Rojakovick, Nancy Schifo, and Susan (James) Mikyska; her siblings, Edna Ann (Paul) Baker and Edward (Rosa) Sterling; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 9, beginning at 10 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, 203 S. Marion St., Oak Park.
