The OPRF field hockey team battled to a 2-1 double-overtime win over Loyola at sectionals on Saturday to advance to the Illinois High School Field Hockey Association State tournament.

The Huskies extended their win-streak to 10 when Taylor Stamm, Grace Shirreff, and Megan Scotty all scored during a shoot-off.

OPRF came out strong in the first half of regulation when senior Lizzie Optholt found the net off a pass from Nicole Cordero.

Junior goalie Lauren Gonzalez made the game-winning saves by stopping 3 of 5 shots in the shoot-off.

“I was happy with the strong first half,” said OPRF head coach Jane Graham. “We had the opportunities and we will work on cleaning up offensively in the circle.”

The Huskies (19-7-3) begin state play Thursday in the semifinals at 1 p.m. at Oak Park Stadium.

Trinity wins regional

The Trinity volleyball team won its own Class 3A Regional on Saturday by downing Amundsen 25-1, 25-10 and Jones 25-8, 25-6.

Caroline Brander led the Blazers with 21 kills and 10 digs total in both matches. Katy Osowiec added 35 assists and six aces, and Amanda Macchione had 13 kills for Trinity, who take on Mother Guerin at home in the sectional semifinal on Thursday (5 p.m.). The Trinity Sectional title game will be the same night at 7 p.m.

OPRF swims to fourth

The OPRF swim team finished fourth at the West Suburban (Silver) Conference Meet on Saturday. The host, Hinsdale Central, took first place with a score of 329.

Lori Mansfield finished third in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:21.58. The junior also took fourth in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.87.

The Huskies garnered a score of 184.

Hockey falls to Neuqua

The OPRF Hockey Club fell 8-4 to Neuqua Valley at Ridgeland Common on Sunday.

Jonah Rice led the Huskies with two goals. Michael Slovak and Dean Rogers each scored a goal apiece for the Huskies, who face-off against Metro West foe Naperville Central at All Seasons Ice Rink on Saturday.

OPRF returns home for a game against Marist at Ridgeland Common on Sunday.
