Lake Street puncher loose, pooper nabbed
A man wearing a red sweatshirt and dark pants assaulted a man walking eastbound on the 500 block of Lake Street on Oct. 23 at 10:17 p.m., according to Oak Park police. The man approached the victim from his left side and struck him with a closed fist in the left shoulder. The puncher fled eastbound on Lake.
A 37-year-old Forest Park man from the 7700 block of Van Buren was arrested for defecating near a garbage can in the 800 block of Lake Street at 12:58 a.m. on Oct. 26, according to Oak Park police. The man was charged with disorderly conduct.
Theft
A person was robbed of their iPhone on the 600 block of South Ridgeland on Oct. 18 at 4:52 p.m., according to Oak Park police. The first offender was described as 10 to 12 years old, 5-foot-5 with a heavy build, short spiky hair, wearing a red sweatshirt and black shorts. The second offender also was 5-foot-5 with a thin build and wearing all black. The two offenders approached the victim on their BMX bicycles and asked to use the victim’s iPhone. The victim handed it over and the boys said, “Let’s go,” and laughed as they fled. The loss was estimated at $500.
Armed robbery arrest
Raymond Jones, 26, of the 2400 block of South Millard in Chicago, was arrested for armed robbery in the 3100 block of West Flournoy at 12:25 p.m. on Oct. 19. Police say the robbery occurred on Oct. 6 in the 500 block of Madison Street.
A 17-year-old from Oak Park was arrested on Oct. 19 at 3:06 p.m. for two counts of armed robbery in the 900 block of Clinton. The victims were described as two Oak Park residents.
Residential burglary
A residence in the 800 block of South Austin was burglarized on Oct. 22 between 6 a.m. and 2:14 p.m., according to Oak Park police. The offender used a quarter-inch pry tool to force open the front door. The offender then stole a black and silver iMac desktop computer, a 32-inch flat-screen television, a Toshiba laptop, a Cannon camera and three lenses, a small jewelry box with miscellaneous jewelry and a watch box containing six men’s watches. The total loss was estimated at $6,350.
Retail theft and arrest
A man described as 35-40 years old stole five boxes of allergy medication from CVS pharmacy at 345 Madison St. in Oak Park on Oct. 22 between 3:37 and 3:42 p.m.
The man, described as roughly 5-foot-10 with a medium build, wearing a black hat, black hooded sweatshirt, white T-shirt, black pants and white gym shoes, stole five boxes of antihistamines from a display shelf, concealing them inside his jacket. A foot pursuit ensued and three boxes of the medication were found in the alley behind 360 Washington Blvd. The loss was estimated at $79.98.
Police report that a woman from the 100 block of 22nd Avenue in Bellwood was stopped and arrested in the 500 block of Highland on Oct. 23 at 2:31 p.m. after being positively identified “as the offender who removed items from the display shelf and exited the building without paying.” The report did not specify the location of the theft.
Theft arrest
A 28-year-old man, of the 5900 block of West Iowa in Chicago, was arrested in the 1000 block of North Mason in Chicago and charged with theft on Oct. 19 at 3:03 p.m. The report gave no indication of where the original theft occurred or what was stolen.
Motor vehicle theft
A purple 1999 Dodge Caravan was stolen from the 800 block of South Boulevard sometime between 8 p.m. on Oct. 20 and 8 a.m. on Oct. 21, according to Oak Park police. The loss was estimated at $5,000.
These items, obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments, came from reports filed Oct. 18-26 and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public’s help in making an arrest.
