Oct. 16: The Historical Society of Oak Park and River Forest presents its 14th annual Tale of the Tombstones, a two-hour walking tour of historic Forest Home Cemetery, 863 Des Plaines Ave. in Forest Park. Visit the burial sites of the founders and developers of River Forest in honor of the 125th anniversary celebration. Tours begin at 1 p.m. and leave every 10 minutes until 2 p.m. $15 for non-members of the Historical Society, $10 for members. Rain date is Oct. 23. Call 848-6755.

Oct. 16: Concordia University will host a reception in Kretzman Hall for River Forest artist Mary Bourke. 2 to 4 p.m. Call Brian Becker at 209-4090.

Oct 22-23: River Forest Library will host a re-marking of the Centennial Time Capsule, originally buried in 1980 during the River Forest Centennial Celebration. This event is based on the Eagle Scout project of Tim McCole.

Oct. 24: The River Forest Village Board hosts an official commemoration of the anniversary of the incorporation of River Forest on Oct. 24, 1880. View a photo retrospective of anniversary events held from April through October of this year.

Oct. 27: Costumed children and pets will line up at Keystone Park, with the parade to begin promptly at 4:45 p.m. Sponsored by the Animal Care League, the parade will proceed to Washington Commons, where best costume prizes will be awarded.
