Kirke Cushing, 78
Former manager at WLS-TV
Henry Kirke Cushing II, 78, of Oak Park, died on Dec. 21, 2020. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on May 12, 1942, he served in the U.S. Air Force and attended the University of Arizona. He began his career in television in Tucson, Arizona at KOLD-TV. From there he returned to Boston and later Columbus, Ohio (WHDH-TV, WCVB-TV, Warner Cable Qube). In 1979, he moved to Chicago where he spent 22 years as the manager of Electronic News Gathering at WLS-TV. He retired in 2001. Throughout, he remained active in the Boy Scouts of America, woodworking, and by supporting many charities and local community churches. He was the kindest and most generous person everywhere he went.
Kirke was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Kirke and Marjorie Estabrook Cushing; and three brothers, William H., Reed E., and Michael C. He is survived by his wife, Janet Jackson Cushing; two sons, David Jackson (Audra Alessandrone) and Henry Kirke III (Meg Holding); and two grandchildren, Jackson and Lucy.
Services will be private.
Arrangements were handled at Adolf Funeral Home in Willowbrook.

This is very sad news and I am very sorry for the Cushing family. Oak Park has lost an early morning, mid day and late night hockey legend. Please know Kirke, Meg and Jackson that you are in the Malley family's thoughts and prayers.
