Joseph Christopher Parrilli, 66, formerly of Oak Park, died on Dec. 30, 2020, a victim of the current scourge afflicting the world. Born on Jan. 24, 1954, he was always positive and of earthy humor, in spite of the difficulties he encountered throughout his life. Despite contracting spinal meningitis in first grade, having a cerebral hemorrhage at age 24 (shortly before this photo was taken), and then suffering a serious blood infection following hip surgery, he maintained a remarkable mental attitude. His last 40-plus years were spent in a nursing/rehabilitation home that, for most, would be a somber place. Instead he remained a positive force who helped many through those difficult times and was likewise a source of strength for staff serving the residents.  

Strong in his faith, he was a model of how to love life, regardless of the obstacles or barriers encountered. It took little to satisfy Joe's needs — visits from family members met with exuberant reactions, and a penchant for conquering various forms of word games and puzzles. He will be missed by his siblings, Dan, Michael, Elise and Allegra, who are proud of what he accomplished in his life and were always proud to call him brother. But he will also be missed by the residents and friends he accumulated over the years at the nursing home, and the many he encountered through his church affiliation and vocational workplace. He is now at peace, whole in body for the first time in over 40 years.  

Joe was the son of Christopher F. Parrilli and Carol G. Duff, and the brother of Daniel J. Parrilli, Michael B. Parrilli, Elise P. Tognocchi, and Allegra G. French. 

A celebration of life will be held this summer (date to be determined).
