Armed robbery, aggravated assault on Austin Blvd.
An early morning armed robbery and an aggravated assault took place in the 300 and 500 blocks of South Austin Boulevard, respectively, around 2 a.m. on Jan. 25, according to Oak Park police.
The aggravated assault took place first in the 500 block at 2:05 a.m. A Dolton resident was approached by a man in his early 20s displaying a black handgun, according to police. The victim ran from the offender who was described a black man with a skinny build, approximately 5-foot-7, wearing a black hoodie, white T-shirt, dark jeans and a black skull cap.
The armed robbery took place minutes later at 2:13 a.m. in the 300 block of South Austin Boulevard, according to police. The offender allegedly placed a black handgun into a Chicago resident's right side and demanded the victim's valuables. The victim handed over $24, cigarettes and a red lighter.
The offender was described as a black male in his 20s, roughly 5-foot-11 in height, with a light complexion, facial hair, braided hair under a black skull cap and wearing a dark jacket with a red collar, red/white/blue sleeves and a shark logo, blue jeans and gray Air Jordan-type shoes.
Attempted armed robbery
Broderick D. Cofer, 25, of the 3100 block of Bromley Lane in Aurora, was arrested after allegedly striking a victim in the head with a rock and attempting to take the victim's cell phone.
The incident occurred at 11:51 p.m. in the 1100 block of South Oak Park Avenue, police said.
Arrested for cellphone theft
Four male juveniles, all Chicago residents, were taken into custody for allegedly taking a victim's iPhone 5S cell phone and red case in the 300 block of South Boulevard at 8:04 p.m. on Jan. 24.
The offenders were stopped and taken into custody in the 100 block of Madison Street after the victim positively identified them. All four juveniles were transported to the station and later released to their parents or guardians.
Criminal damage to vehicle
The driver's side of a vehicle was scratched with an unknown object in the 500 block of South Kenilworth Avenue sometime between 9 a.m. and noon on Jan. 23. The estimated loss due to damage was $1,000.
A 15-year-old male Chicago resident was arrested after being identified as the subject who was in the victim's backyard in the 800 block of Mapleton at 1:02 p.m. on Jan. 23.
The juvenile was taken into custody and released to his guardian.
A 25-year-old Chicago man was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct in the 1000 block of South Oak Park Avenue at 11:04 a.m. on Jan. 20. A second man, a 20-year-old Oak Park resident, was also arrested and charged with battery, resisting a police officer and disorderly conduct.
A 58-year-old San Diego, California, man was arrested and charged with battery to an Oak Park resident in the 100 block of Washington Boulevard at 11:34 a.m. on Jan. 18, according to police.
A business was burglarized in the 100 block of North Oak Park Avenue between 6 p.m. on Jan. 16 and 5 p.m. on Jan 18.
The offender used a tool to pry open the door lock, but it was unknown what, if anything, was taken. The estimated loss due to damage was $200.
These items, obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments, came from reports, Jan. 18-25, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public's help in making an arrest.
