Slagle and Burke to marry on the Fifth of July

Bill and Laurie Hamen of River Forest announce the recent engagement of their son, Drew Slagle, to Anna Burke, daughter of Tim and Connie Burke of North St. Paul, Minn. The bride-to-be has a B.S.N. from the College of St. Benedict and is a nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Paul. The groom-to-be has a B.A. in accounting from St. John's University in Collegeville, Minn., and is completing an M.B.A. at North Central College in Naperville. He is employed by DeVry University in Oak Brook, and plans to enroll in law school in Minnesota in the fall. A July 5 wedding is planned.

Ross earns two scholarships

Elizabeth Ross of Oak Park has enrolled as a freshman at Lake Forest College and has been awarded a Prairie State Academic Scholarship and a Patterson Leadership Scholarship. The Prairie State Academic Scholarships are awarded for a strong record of achievement in a challenging program of study. The Patterson Leadership Scholarship is awarded in certain fields of study for special ability and dedication. Ross graduated from Oak Park and River Forest High School.

OPRF adopts Adopt-A-Family

Oak Park and River Forest High School students and staff filled an entire yellow school bus with presents for 48 families participating in this year's Adopt-A-Family holiday gift program. Lara Jabor, president of Tau Gamma, one of the high school's service organizations, and Jessica Morrow, Tau Gamma secretary, prepare to help load the mound of gifts into the bus to take them to the Adopt-A-Family site.
