As the number of older seniors continues to grow, so does the need for safe, affordable adult day services that provide stimulating activities, outings, friendship and healthy meals in a supervised setting. Come tour the newly renovated and expanded Accolade Adult Day Services center, learn about the program and enjoy free refreshments at a community open house on Thursday, June 16 from 2 to 6 p.m. at 112 S. Humphrey.

Accolade has expanded its space and is seeking to grow its census of seniors, whose schedule at the Center is based on their individual needs. Some seniors come daily, others a few days a week. Many are transported by family members, while others utilize the Accolade bus or PACE transportation.

Daily activities include exercise, crafts, current events, and games. Outings to local attractions like The Garfield Park Conservatory or to a special restaurant get the seniors out and about.

“There is a nurse on site daily who performs monthly assessments and administers medication if needed. Unfortunately, an often overlooked benefit of participating in Adult Day Services (ADS) is that the day care complements a senior’s entire support system. Family respite is as important as the safety and socialization is to the senior. The day care staff is knowledgeable about other available community resources,” says Theresa V. Gates-Ross, Accolade Site Director.
