Don't be so quick to jump on the #trending bandwagon, is probably the lesson lots learned Thursday morning as rumors of Oak Park native Betty White's death circulated on social media.

The rumor started with this headline by satirical news website Empire News: "Actress Betty, 92, Dyes Peacefully In Her Los Angeles Home."

The fake news story was really about the actress dying her hair and not really being a natural blonde.

The Los Angeles Times reached out to White's agent to inquire about the well-known actress's status. Her agent, Jeff Witjas, confirmed that White is indeed alive and in the middle of shooting the TV Land show "Hot in Cleveland."

Who knew homonyms could shake up a Thursday morning quite like "dyes" and "dies."

That was hilarious! It's amazing how people can be duped by the silliest things. You go, Betty!
