Jennifer Reddy is resigning as a member of the District 97 elementary school board. Her family is moving to New York. The newspapers report that eleven people have expressed interest in being appointed to the slot.

If memory serves, Ms. Reddy ran for the Board unopposed. No one wanted the job. Now everyone does.  I suppose there are a couple of reasons .One is that it’s easier to be appointed to the Board,  than to run  even an uncontested campaign. Even more likely,  no one wants to serve on a Board right before a tough referendum campaign, but lots of people want to serve after the successful campaign.

It’s all very understandable. But I wish some of these eleven had ran before the referendum.
