Join Pro Music Youth Chorus (PMYC) – Singing Outdoors this Fall 

Informational Meeting Thurs. Sept. 3, 7 p.m., Zoom. Season runs Tuesdays, Sept. 8 to May 15

Youth ages 4 through 18 are invited to join the 31st season of PMYC. Rehearsals begin outdoors, with vigorous safety measures in place, on the lawn at First United Church, 848 Lake St., Oak Park. Once the weather turns, programming will go online until the spring, when rehearsals will resume outside. This season includes music-making, theory, appreciation, concerts and fun. Principles of Passion: The Privilege at Play in Creative Industries

Exploring the creativity divide is essential during this time of change and steps must be taken if students of this game of life are to be able to follow their creative passions and become creative problem-solvers. Story Time in the Garden

Wednesdays through Oct. 14, 10 to 10:30 a.m. and 11 to 11:30 a.m., outdoor Discovery Garden
at the Oak Park Conservatory

Enjoy story time, songs and puppetry led by Conservatory docents. Maximum of 16 participants. Both adults and children must register; only registered participants will be allowed in the Discovery Garden during story time. Brought by the Friends of the Oak Park Conservatory. Virtual Open House

L'Institut Français d'Oak Park offers courses in all levels of French for adults and mature teens as well as weekly teen and adult Conversation Cafés. Fall offerings run Sept. 14 to Nov. 21 on Zoom. Tween Talk

New: Special Hours for
High-risk Patrons

Mondays through Saturdays, 10 to 11 a.m.,
Main Library

Each morning, time is set aside only for those at high risk for complications from COVID-19. The CDC defines high-risk individuals as older adults and people with underlying medical conditions. Other patrons may visit between 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays, at the Main branch, 834 Lake St., Oak Park.

  

D97 Parent University 

District 97 held its first virtual Parent University in mid-August to provide families with information, tips and tools to support students with remote learning this fall. Recordings of these sessions, and accompanying slides, are available to watch anytime. "Harmony in the Universe"

Wednesdays, 1 to 6 p.m., Dancing Krow Studio & Social Club

The summer exhibit from the artist collective led by Karen Schuman celebrates peace, love, mindfulness and well-being. View the exhibition and shop for art by local artists. Also selling handmade soaps and hand sanitizer. 43 Harrison, Oak Park.

Community Control of the Police

WSSRA's Derby Gala

Saturday, Sept. 5, 5 to 6:30 p.m., Virtual Event

The West Suburban Special Recreation Foundation is hosting its annual Derby Gala on the occasion of the 146th Kentucky Derby. This fundraising event, which supports providing quality recreation services to individuals with disabilities, includes a silent auction, raffle and paddle raise. $25, includes one raffle ticket.
