Oak Park residents are still mourning the loss of local music merchant and larger-than-life personality Val Camilletti, owner of Val's halla Records at 239 Harrison St.

But talk already has surfaced of giving Camilletti an honorary street.

Oak Park Trustee Deno Andrews mentioned the effort that has surfaced at a recent board of trustees meeting. The honorary street might be located on South Boulevard, however, where the record store was located for years before moving to Harrison Street.

I love the idea of renaming Harrison Street or a portion to Val's Way. Val brought business to the street and a vibe that keeps people coming. With the new townhomes and businesses now under construction, it would be very timely indeed. It combines the new with an important part of the street's history. Harrison Street welcomed Val; let's keep hew here!

I like the idea of naming a street after Val "Val's Way", as her last name rarely ever even needed to be mentioned when referring to her. I'm also partial to Harrison Street being the location for an honorary street named for her. While South Blvd. may be where the business was located for a longer period of time, it was the Oak Park Arts District on Harrison Street that wooed and then welcomed her many years ago when there was talk of the possibility of Val's halla closing. Also, the Oak Park Arts District is the current location of the shop. Naming a portion of Harrison Street after Val might go a long way in keeping Val's halla Record Store open.

I like the option of the original location. I also like the Val's Halla Blvd or even Way. Not everyone knows her last name Val's Halla is so iconic.
