Taking the pragmatic approach

There are protestors and there are pragmatists, but who said they have to be mutually exclusive. Exhibit A?

The West Cook Chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America and Suburban Unity Alliance will sponsor a free brake-light clinic on Saturday, July 21, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the corner of North and Humphrey avenues in Oak Park.

Get your brake lights replaced for free because getting stopped by the police "can be costly, time-consuming and can create unnecessary risk for undocumented immigrants, people of color and the poor and working class," a flyer advertising the event read.

I think this is a kind thing to do. But if I were an undocumented immigrant, the last place I'd probably go is an event planned and publicized to help undocumented immigrants.

One can only wonder if the undocumented immigrant drivers have car insurance, to go along with those not working break lights on their cars. Ever been hit by someone without insurance? Not fun. It can be costly, time consuming and creates unnecessary risk for everyone else on the road. Let anarchy reign.
