Oak Park's future as an integrated community will be Topic A during a July 19 panel discussion in the main library's Veterans' Room, 834 Lake St. The evening session, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., will explore the village's valiant, if at times fraught, attempts over four decades to create and maintain the level of integration, diversity, equity and inclusion that has become a prime enticement for new residents.
The event will include a panel comprising Rob Breymaier, executive director of the Oak Park Regional Housing Center; Linda Francis, director of Success of All Youth; and Maria Saldaña, executive director of the Oak Park Residence Corporation. Charlie Meyerson, of Meyerson Strategies and Rivet Radio, will moderate the discussion.
The experts will talk about numerous integration strategies, after which community members will be invited to provide their input. This event is part of the Oak Park Public Library's One Book, One Oak Park summer series.
