Ernest Hemingway Foundation Awards Inaugural Hemingway Foundation Student Scholarship

The Ernest Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park is pleased to announce that Oak Park and River Forest High School, Class of 2017, Tamsen Cronin is the winner of the inaugural Hemingway Foundation student writing competition. The competition was open to all OPRFHS juniors and was held this past spring in conjunction with the English Division at the High School. Tamsen's essay on the subject "At Home in Oak Park/River Forest" won first place in the competition. She will receive a $1,000 college scholarship, administrated through the Oak Park and River Forest High School Scholarship Foundation, and a writing mentorship with the Foundation's Writer in Residence during her senior year at OPRFHS. The award will be presented during the Foundation's Birthday Benefit on July 23 at the Oak Park Public Library.

 
This scholarship award also celebrates the 100 th anniversary of Hemingway's graduation from OPRFHS in 1917.
 
Megan Carraher and Fiona Casper-Strauss were chosen as the second and third place student finalists. All three OPRFHS students will have their essays published in HEMINGWAY SHORTS, a journal celebrating new voices in creative writing whose publication will coincide with the International Hemingway Society conference taking place in the Oak Park-area between July 17-22.
