Real estate blog Commercial Café has named Oak Park the eighth best commuter town in suburban Chicago, largely because of its proximity to downtown Chicago.

Of the 10 cities that made the list, Oak Park had the best commuter time of 24 minutes; that's compared to Palatine, which ranked 10 on the list and had the worst commuter time of 48 minutes.

The rankings considered the commute time, housing values, crime rate and a school rating for each city.

The blog noted that Oak Park's top commute time contributed 67 percent of its total points in the ranking.

"Roughly 69 percent of residents drive into Chicago, but for those who opt for public transit, both Metra and the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) have multiple trains stops in Oak Park," the blog noted.

Commercial Café also highlighted Oak Park's recreational spaces, such as the redesigned Taylor Park and community space at Rehm Park and Ridgeland Common Recreation Complex.

"You can go for a swim at or enjoy the tropical scents and burst of colors at the Oak Park Conservatory," the blog noted.

Frank Lloyd Wright- and Ernest Hemingway-related attractions also were highlighted in the report.
