Lavergne's Tavern went up against other local favorites Connie's Family Restaurant & Cocktails, Mission House Cafe, MacNeal Hospital Café and Tacos y Salsa. The final competition brought together a group of local judges for a blind taste-test event hosted by the St. Leonard's Parish School to compare each specialty egg dish side-by-side based on taste, presentation and texture.

The panel enjoyed the variety of egg dishes, making the decision a difficult one. Of the winner, they described the egg dish as "breakfast I would feel good about eating and it's delicious." Judges included David Lipka, Owner of Krew Rock Lounge; Jacquinete Baldwin, Editorial Designer at Wednesday Journal, Inc; Diane Salemi, Branch Sales Manager at Republic Bank of Chicago; Katie Lent, Closing Specialist for Small Business Growth Corp and Jamberry Independent Consultant; Veronica Skelton Cash, Principal of St. Leonards; and Melissa Terrazas, Insurance and Financial Service Agent for Farmers Insurance. Their scores along with a public poll determined the contest winner.

Owner Jerry Hernandez reacted to the award saying, "Our avocado toast has been a fan favorite ever since we started offering our weekend brunch. We hope everyone will come out and try the dish alongside our other brunch offerings. We feel truly honored for the opportunity to showcase what we have to offer. We might have to add it to the regular menu since it's currently only on our weekend brunch menu." When asked what makes this dish so delicious, Executive Chef Mark Downing went on to say, "Fresh, organic ingredients truly highlight the simplicity of the dish."
