It just wasn't in the cards for microbrewery Noon Whistle to open in Oak Park, said co-owner Mike Condon.

The new business aimed to set up shop at 18 Chicago Ave. but could not reach a rental agreement with the owners of the building. Condon said they found a home in Lombard at 800 E. Roosevelt Road.

"We're obviously disappointed it didn't work out," Condon said in a telephone interview. "Once that first property fell through, we weren't able to find a space [in Oak Park] that catered to our specifications and price point."

He said the microbrewery aims to be open for business near the end of the year.

The landlords would have had to take a gamble as the interior would have required major changes to work for this business. If it failed, as many new businesses do, landlord would incur significant costs. Not fair to judge without knowing the numbers...

Wasn't it the landlords - The Planeck Brothers of Oak Park Apartments that was stumbling block... As for other places - there are a ton of them in Oak Park...but the comment to note was the "Price Point" - Landlords are one of the biggest problems for the empty storefronts - they seem to forget there was a major recession a few years ago and folk can't put up the money they are asking for the rentals...
