After winning their sixth state title last season, the Fenwick girls water polo team hasn’t meandered away from the winning column.

The Friars entered the week 11-1 overall. They had pushed their undefeated Metro Catholic Aquatic Conference record to 6-0 with a 12-9 win over St. Ignatius (5-2). Junior Haley Wickham led the Friars in that victory with six goals. The Barron sisters — senior Maureen and sophomore Colleen — accounted for five goals, while Alexa Ovalle chipped in one.

Goalie Mackenzie Bonk had six saves for the Friars, who host the Mike Murphy Tournament beginning on Thursday and running through Saturday.

Fenwick is currently ranked second in the state by Illpolo.com. Naperville Central, who is a perfect 15-0 on the season, sits atop the rankings.

Things haven’t gone so swimmingly for the OPRF girls water polo team. The Huskies entered the week 3-12 on the season. They downed Hinsdale South 9-4 last week for their first West Suburban Conference victory of the season. Katie Appell led the charge with eight goals. Julia Corsini added also scored and Zoe Erickson kept Hinsdale South at bay with 12 saves.

The Huskies host their own invitational this Saturday.

Fenwick and OPRF will go head-to-head on April 17 at Fenwick (6:30 p.m.).
