When I got back from an out of town trip yesterday, in addition to the pizza restaurant and home repair flyers there was a slick campaign brochure from Citizens For Accountable Leadership with photos of Messrs. Johnson,Salzman and Tucker, VMA’s candidates for next month’s election. The brochure had brief bios and the usual platform platitudes. I learned that Mr. Salzman and Tucker were both attorneys. That was a bit worrisome.
My brochure had a handwritten note: “Hi John! Sorry we missed you. Kudos on the blog!” Immediately I began to like these candidates even though I have been critical of VMA in the past.
VMA is like Duke basketball or the Yankees. Just because they’re good and successful, maybe you shouldn’t hate on em. Give credit that even though these guys have this election in the bag, they’re out there passing out brochures and writing personal notes even though they might not be sincere. So VMA wins all the time. What’s wrong with that? If you don’t like them or their policies, here’s an idea: Beat them in an election. This isn’t Egypt or Libya.
Maybe all VMA’s success has made them a bit cocky and arrogant. Just remember what Muhammed Ali said: “It ain’t braggin if you do it.”
