Four seniors at Fenwick High School in Oak Park have qualified as finalists in this year's National Merit Scholarship competition. The seniors scored among the top 1 percent of the roughly 1.5 million students who took the PSAT/NMSQT exams last year. About half of the 16,000 Merit finalists will win scholarships.

The four finalists from Fenwick, with their grade schools and cities of residence, are (in alphabetical order):

Avyn Alairys (Oak Park, Glen Westlake Middle School)

Michael Dillon (La Grange Park, St. Francis Xavier School)

Nathan Fisher (La Grange, St. Francis Xavier School)

Spencer Gallagher (Elmhurst, Visitation Grade School)

The finalists will compete for roughly 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million. Winners will be announced between April and July.

This story has been changed to reflect that the students were named National Merit finalists, not semifinalists.

Actually, this WJ article is incorrect. These four are National Merit Finalists. (Not semifinalists) https://www.fenwickfriars.com/the-final-four-finalists-for-national-merit-scholarships/
